An alternative to Hootsuite, Buffer, and Later

They host a queue. The Posting Tool is free, MIT licensed, and runs on your machine. You own the socials. We do not claim better reach.

They schedule. So does this.

Hootsuite, Buffer, and Later are hosted calendars. You make the video, write the caption, and drop it in their queue. Check their sites for current subscription details.

The Posting Tool does the same posting job from your own machine: drop a video and a sidecar caption file in the inbox, run one command, and it schedules or posts to six platforms. It is free and the code is open.

We do not claim better reach, more views, or more followers than a hosted scheduler.

You own the accounts

You keep your socials. Connect happens on your computer with the login helper. This is not hosted SaaS. Clone it free from GitHub.

Business-account rules

Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest need a Business account (Instagram can also be Creator). Convert before you connect. On Instagram, look for the Schedule content switch. If it is there, the tool can pick a time. If a Professional account is missing the switch, the tool still posts now. Pinterest Business is required to schedule. TikTok Business unlocks the link in bio on new accounts and accounts under 1k followers. A personal account on those three is a platform limit, not a defect.

Details: Setup guide → Business accounts.

Who this is not for

  • People who want a hosted dashboard — this runs on your own machine.
  • Enterprise social teams — this is a self-hosted tool for a person who owns the accounts, not a seat-based agency suite.
